Inspired by the aesthetic oak lined Victorian streetscapes of the Garden Districts as well as Mobile’s spectacular sunrises, Devlin’s earliest memories are of aspiring to become an artist. Encouraged by his father and grandfather, who both displayed inherent artistic abilities, and who drew and painted in their spare time, he pursued an education in the arts starting in elementary school through to Murphy High School, The University of South Alabama and The Atlanta College of Fine Arts. Today, he continues to follow his ambitions and is currently maintaining a studio in a 115 year old Victorian Cottage on Church Street in the Leinkauf Historic District.
Throughout his career, Devlin has made it his mission to enhance the cultural landscape of the Mobile arts community through his active participation in numerous community projects and partnering with local agencies including, but not limited to The Boys and Girls Club, One Mobile, The Child Advocacy Center, The Luke Peavy foundation, etc. Devlin generously donates paintings to support local nonprofit groups as his way of “giving back” to the community. He has created several murals which are prominently displayed in the downtown area, most notably, the Greer's store at Broad and Government and Dauphin Street Sound at Dearborn. He has also provided 3 oysters for the Mobile Oyster trail, one at Wintzell’s, one at the Airport and currently working on one which will be displayed at the entrance of Hampton Inn downtown. Devlin's efforts to improve the art community in Mobile are unparalleled as Devlin continues his mission and imparts his knowledge to the younger generations.
