Growing up, my family was financially strapped, so I used clay to create another world. My mom noticed lots of emotions in my miniature action figures and that God had given me a wonderful talent. My parents encouraged me to try art in high school. My junior year of college, my ceramics professor's passion helped me realize that I could not see myself doing anything else in life but art. When asked, “Why art?” My answer is a little different than as a kid. God gifted me with a special part of him, creativity. When I create, I go to another world. I lose myself in my creations. In the movie, V for Vendetta, a character says, “Artists use lies to tell the truth, while politicians use truth to lie.” This reminds me that I can create places or things that do not exist, but the viewer’s emotional response is real. Art is what I love to do, it’s what God designed me to be, and it reignites the value of imagination.
