Provenance / History of This Item:
By The River
Sandstone Series Number 1
The river flows past flat sandstone ledges.
Early morning mist weaves upstream
between dark, tree covered islands.
The sun touches them with gold. This is a place for dreaming.
About the sandstone:
In my past, I lived in Sydney, Australia.
On weekends I spent many hours drawing
the rock formations along the Hawkesbury River.
I was lost in the river spirit, with its cliffs, caves and huge flat ledges.
Images etched by indigenous inhabitants of the past survive.
On one such occasion, I collected pieces of coloured stone in yellow, purple, white and red tones.
These I ground to a powder and stored for future use.
In the year 2013, I became inspired to use the coloured sandstone in this series of paintings.
