Provenance / History of This Item:
Each mask is a part of a large ongoing series of masks, inspired by the aboriginal Lucayan indians who once inhabited a pre-Columbus Bahamas. The series entitled 'Lucayan Evolution ', hypothetically portrays these individuals having survived Spanish occupation, inter-breeding with African slaves and evolving into the modern day Bahamian. The exhibit has been on display in two prominent galleries in the Bahamas, and recently included in a collection of Caribbean art showcase in Turks and Caicos.
