This piece was inspired by the beauty of coral reefs, along with the growth of unique and diverse life that is found there. My art reflects on the connection between humanity and nature, and this piece is no different. Can humans protect coral reefs and the wildlife that inhabits them? Are we destroying them? Are we, as humans, one with the planet we inhabit? On top of the environmental issues the piece presents, it also was an outlet for whimsy and fantasy. I grew up reading comic books and was often inspired by the creative and fantastical heroes and villains. My work often creates otherworldly creatures that could be considered supernatural 'heroes' or 'villains', depending on how the viewer sees the work and themselves. The human aspect of my work is a way to connect the viewer to the piece and draw them into the narrative I have created. After they are drawn in, it is up to them how they view it.
