Aaron Kinnane has exhibited both nationally and internationally and has completed major commissions including a three-paneled work for the Liverpool Hospital in Sydney, as well as attracting attention in the Archibald Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales with a portrait of Ben Lee. Kinnane studied Visual Art at Newcastle University and began exhibiting his work in 2001. After a year in Italy as assistant to the Italian Trans‐Avant Gardia painter Sandro Chia, a key character of the Saatchi Galleries New York clique of the 1980's. Kinnane's earlier figurative abstractions, most notably of which his rambunctious, colourful and embellished equine series, are in local and international collections.
Aaron Kinnane's expressionistic works often channel energy from one subject to create an interconnected series of pieces that are mysterious and intriguing. His recent work 'Gold Coast' is infused with energy; through the vibrant colors and masterful detail, each piece reflects the spirit of childhood eccentricity and imagination.
Kinnane's effervescent paintings endear the viewer to the gentle, yet strikingly beautiful beasts, who are depicted splashed in bold colors against an ominous dark background. Appearing like they stole the sunset the horse and rider majestically become one as they are caught in a gallop, never vexed by the darkness that surrounds them. Kinnane describes his visual transformation of the animal's hide as 'skins tattooed with fireworks and dawns, and new life.'
Aaron Kinnane has been published in Harper's Bazaar and had numerous solo exhibitions. Kinnane's talent for enveloping the viewer in his magical world makes one feel as if they have fallen down the rabbit hole and are welcomed to a lively summer fiesta.
