TITLE: When in drought, ship out
    MEDIUM: Synthetic polymer on canvas
    SIZE: 150 x 150cm
    2018

As a play on words and specifically referencing a golfing adage that states - 'when in doubt, chip out'. This means that if one has splayed their drive into the grassy edge of the fairway and ended up behind a tree, it's safer to chip out onto the fairway rather than attempt a heroic long shot.

When I wore a younger mans clothes, I played A LOT of golf around my hometown of Penrith. Thankfully the penny dropped for me early in my painting emergence whence, under the guise of Stephen Mori, I began addressing environmental issues in my artworks.

Fast forward to present date and we have a record 100% of the 'state' in drought with livestock meeting their premature demise and farmers too. The rivers are being fracked up to appease shareholders demands and the wildlife form plagues within places never before observed.

BUT THE GOLF COURSES ARE STILL GREEN.

Blak Douglas's work is very significant, profoundly bold in its depiction and message. What we have here is an artist that is completely dedicated to delivering the truth as he has learnt it. Particularly focusing on what it means to be an Aboriginal man with part Irish decent in the 21st century. All the cultural clichés that haunt him and the ironies present within the 'Australian Dream', Born somewhere in between* here and there, then and now, Adam Hill aka Blak Douglas & his speakeasy, sometimes comical, slapstick yet totally on point and uncensored attitude towards the establishment and all the pawns in the game is a thrilling and absolutely necessary experience for all Australians. A true piece of the underbelly of Australia's hidden history, Blak Douglas's work challenges your own moral hygiene & throws you into a deserted landscape where you are completely naked and responsible for what happens in your own backyard!
