Sara Zaher is a visual artist, who through digital collage and video art aims to tackle themes of identity within a fragile sociopolitical landscape. In this series, 'Beneath the Mask' she transforms current political figures into iconic Hollywood villains. Whether Donald Trump as The Joker, Vladimir Putin as Hannibal Lecter, Kim Jong-Un as the Terminator, or Bashar al-Assad as Darth Maul- these artworks serve as a commentary on a relatively modern phenomena of the 'political celebrity'. Figures that are entrenched with so much infamy and controversy that they are no longer relatable. In the public's perception, they lose their humanity and become - like Hollywood villains - foreign antagonists.
