Some have described canyons as God's attempt to scratch the surface of Earth. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the canyons of the Colorado River. Quiet solitude confronts us to shout out and listen to the echo of the canyon walls, reminding us that we are in a special place, one where the echoes remind us that sometimes we need to stop and listen to ourselves.
Along the south bank of the Colorado River just after daybreak, vivid colors of brilliant canyon walls contrast the undiscovered shadow of the unknown.
Vegetation scattered among the hallowed walls of orange and ivory remind us that this canyon is alive, and that we, too, are alive. Where the vegetation gets a foothold, it grows, and where we can get a foothold, we too, shall grow.
This canyon is alive, but we would be forgiven for thinking that it is a place frozen in time. For though the water appears perfectly still, should a leaf or stick grace its mirror-like surface, we would find that it rushes away, reminding us that this place seemingly stuck in time is actually alive and full of motion.
