Heritage Hall, Main St., Vancouver, 1989,
This one goes back a while! This is a funky take, a caricature of a classic style building, just to get a creative angle. My paintings in that period were done free hand, without preliminary sketches or any working lines on the paper. This is paint applied directly on a blank page.
Painting was done on location in Vancouver where I was residing at the time. At the time I drove around town in an old VW van scouting out good scenic nooks. Then I would park and work my painting from inside the van. Those were the days!
Colour sumi inks on Nepal handmade paper, unbleached, 18 x 24 in., 46 x 61 cm.
The paper is a parchment paper, strong yet pliable. This paper I got in Nepal oh so long ago. It is often used in print making by crafts persons there. Paper is unbleached. The inks are from ink sticks which need to be ground on a wet stone. After so many years the paint looks as fresh as when I first made the painting!
The close up picture is of higher resolution to be able to get a feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting.
Watermark is on the photo only, not on the painting.
